15" MBP to 42" Plasma...makes me restart every time. Any ideas?

I'm hooking up my 15" macbook pro to my Element 42" plasma tv. I have a HDMI cable and a converter from my computer, but it requires me to restart every time, and then it just keeps doing that in an endless cycle. I have three HDMI ports on my TV, so maybe I'll try the other two and see what happens. I've seen others on here that just plug it in, but mine doesn't want to work that way.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Only things i can think k of are either, (newer PB only) when you plug in the TV it wants to switch over to the discrete GPU, so requires a restart, but fails and starts up using the integrated GPU. The other option is just to try repairing your permissions, OR create a new user and try it on that - which should eliminate any software problems cos its basicly a clean install
