Hi all, I apologize if this should go in a different thread (Mods, please delete if this is the case) but I wasn't sure where to post.

I just sold my 2015 15" MBP and am looking to upgrade to the 2019 model. I'm an architect and spend a good portion of my time working in 3D modeling software (SketchUp, Rhino, Vray, Revit on my Windows partition), CAD, and Photoshop. This machine would supplement my work PC and doesn't need to be a rendering machine or over the top workhorse though I'd still like something powerful that will last a few years.

I'm looking at the 8core i9 model but am unsure of whether or not I should spend the money on upgrading the internals further. I'd like to go with 32GB of ram since it's not uncommon for me to have multiple modeling software or instances open at the same time. For the GPU, I'm kind of unsure which direction to go in. Is there really any major noticeable difference between the 560x, Vega 16 or Vega 20? If so, are we talking about like 2 to 3 minutes taken off of an hour long render or something? Also, I didn't plan on upgrading the CPU to the 2.4 GHz option, I don't see that being much of an issue worth the money unless somebody states otherwise.

I planned on upgrading the SSD to the 1TB option and just partition the drive 50/50.

I appreciate any help you might be able to throw my way!

I'm looking at buying a similar system right now. I think the upgrade to Vega graphics is worth it given the newer architecture and HBM 2 instead of GDDR 5. As for the Vega 16 or Vega 20 I'm not sure, might go with the 20 just because if I'm already spending that much what's another $100.

I use Fusion 360 for CAD work and while it's mostly CPU bound I want to be future proof for a while. I'm upgrading from a late 2013 15" so I'm planning on this new machine to be another 5 year computer.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if upgrading the internal GPU was the route to go, or to just go with the cheaper option and add on an eGPU to further future proof it. I'll probably go with the Vega 20 and 32gb of Ram and call it a day.
