I bought this machine used in excellent condition but the problem is that with automatic switching turned on it flickers and causes hesitation while it flickers (actually more like brightness cycles dim-bright-brighter). I did as much research as I could but it appears that everyone who describes a similar problem and took it to Apple never got it resolved, some even said replacing the logic board didn't help.
I installed gfxCardStatus so that I’m able to force integrated and discrete and experimented a bit with power vs. battery, automatic switching enabled vs disabled, different screen resolutions, etc.. and my conclusion is that the Iris Pro integrated graphics is the cause under all scenarios. No problem at all with the Radeon M370X switched on all the time, and I’d be fine with that but it would be nice to get better battery life sometimes.
Running diagnostics on startup found no issues and the OS is High Sierra. If anyone is familiar with this, could this be a hardware or software problem? Would reverting to Sierra or El Capitan help?
Thanks in advance.
