The battery in the new MBPs is bigger because no room was needed for an exchangeable battery (no closing mechanism for the bottom, nor battery connector for exchangeable batteries,...), thus the battery could be bigger and gain up to 40% more volume.
But there are external batteries at hyperdrive.com (HyperMac), if you could settle for something like that.
