Still undecided between the 15pro and the 15 pro max, I went to the Apple store in order to check both versions out. To my surprise, the screens of all the smaller 15pro units on display at the store were considerably dimmer than their 15 pro max counterparts when set to maximal brightness. I checked four pairs (they were arranged in pro/pro max pairs on the display table, probably much like in every Apple store on earth) and the difference was consistent throughout all of the four pairs.

The employee at the store that I asked was of no help. He claimed it was an optical illusion due to the "complex lighting situation in the room" while I was holding both phones right next to each other and the difference was striking and obviously independent of any external lighting.

Some forum members have expressed concerns about the pro max version's display being too dim but what I observed was exactly the opposite. All the pro max screens were bright as the sun while the pro's screens were extremely dim.

Having owned several max versions during the last couple of years I was considering going back to the smaller version because although I liked the size of the screen while using the phone I always felt it was a bit too bulky while carrying it in my pocket or trying to use it with one hand. But if the display brightness difference is real I will definitely get the max.

Can anyone confirm/refute my observation?
