My local Best Buy has the base 15" rMBP open box on sale for $1733. I was able to talk them down another 5%, which brings the price down to $1647, plus tax of $150, so basically $1800 out the door. Only problem is that it does not come with a box, plus it has an LG screen. I could not tell if it suffered from image retention...

Anyhow, do you guys think this is a good deal? $1800 out the door?

Thanks!

Sure.

It's probably a mistake, but appleinsider shows the base 15" for $1859.

Well considering a new base model with tax costs ~$2360, you're almost saving $600, or 25% off. Sounds like a great deal to me. AppleInsider actually shows $2098 ($2250 with tax).

I just bought a base model rMBP for $2150 out the door ($1999+tax) since I had government discount, your deal is still 16% cheaper than that.

Hm if it's still covered by the 1 year apple warranty then you can take it into apple if you end up having the LG IR issue.

I'd ask bestbuy or apple if it would still be under warranty when buying an open item.

Ah - must have fixed it. It showed the 15" 2.3 GHz for $1859 - but when I clicked on it the link went to B&H, which showed it to be the 256 GB 13". I knew it looked wrong!

Haha, maybe someone got a good deal for a sec :p

If something is wrong, you can always return it.

Excellent deal. Worst case, you return it to BB. If it has an issue like retention, just use the warranty from Apple to get it fixed. I'd buy it for sure and maybe resell it if I didn't want it.

Well, I went to Best Buy to pull the trigger, and just as they were ringing everything up, they informed me that they could no longer honor the additional 5% discount :-( They said they made a mistake by initially saying they could give me the additional 5% off... I plead my case, but they wouldn't budge. I was pretty upset and just decided to pass on the whole thing... Oh well...

Hm, thats only ~$65, still quite a deal at $500 off, won't find anything near that anytime with the comfort of buying from a retail store .

Do you have another laptop or you letting 5% get in the way of having a nice laptop?
