Good morning chaps

I decided a few weeks ago I would purchase a 15" MBP relatively soon after its release, with the high res display. During that time a tragic accident in the home has occurred (being separated from one's TV *is* a tragedy!), I'm going to have home insurance store credit for an electrical store winging their way to me soon.

The TV that is sadly deceased was quite a special Pioneer. They don't make them anymore and I'm not bothered about 3DTV, so really I will be shooting for a fairly standard TV now. None of the other expensive ones will be anywhere near as good anyway! This frees up the home insurance credit for a MacBook Pro instead of a TV. Consequently - instead of buying an expensive TV, I can pick up a cheap TV and get the MacBook Pro. Total cash cost, even with the high end 15", will be quite small.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to get any of the BTO options, though I am only concerned about screen resolution. I went into my local Apple Store yesterday and they did not have any of the high resolution MacBook Pro 15" on display. I had a good play with the standard resolution and it was good, but I did keep thinking about the high resolution option (even though it isn't an option!) and that made me, illogically, doubt the standard resolution.

In real terms I have been getting to grips with iPhone development recently, some light graphics work (using Pixelmator, not Photoshop, so nothing particularly intense - yet!), university work (I'm studying law, so essays, cases etc) and the usual browsing etc. The standard resolution will be fine...

... Won't it? I have a MacBook Air running at 1280x800 currently. Seems OK. I may be getting caught up in the hype. The only reason I am seeking justification is I planned on purchasing the high res one, but it'd surely be stupid to pass up the store credit just for the extra pixels? The store credit would then just be wasted on something... anything? Not really the best solution :)
