My 15" tbMBP periodically freezes when using an external monitor as a second display or in clamshell mode. Multiple apps just stop responding but the mouse still moves fine. Oddly, a right mouse click unfreezes the mbp and things are normal again till the next freeze. Any insight?

I have had this issue as well. Will try what you are saying and see if it fixes the problem. What external display connection are you using when this happens?

I'm getting actually getting this behavior with my Mac Pro and the same monitor connected via DisplayPort! So it seems like an OS / monitor compatibility bug. So annoying!

Found the problem! Two instances of MagicPrefs were running on each machine. I need to figure out what's causing that but upon quitting one, no more freezing!

My MBP does require a force shutdown if using it in clamshell mode with monitor, it sleeps, and I unplug it from monitor to use on its own. It unlocks to a frozen screen. Hopefully this one is solvable too..
