Is it just me or are the colors more vibrant on the 17" compared to the 15"? I know it has a higher resolution, so could this be an illusion created by more pixels? Or is there a quality/make difference between the two panels besides size?

There may be a difference in the calibration of the two you are comparing, but the color accuracy of the two models is effectively identical.
Some have said that the 17" is brighter, so that might be what you're seeing.
