I'm setting up an AirPort Extreme (5th gen.) for the first time. It's going well, but I'd like to give unique names to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks that the AirPort Extreme broadcasts.

The default -- and possibly only option? -- seems to be to have just one name for both. Maybe that's by design.

Can anyone advise how to do this? Most router setup routines let you choose different names to use on the two bands.

I've done the initial setup using a Windows machine and the AirPort Utility for Windows. I can redo the setup with a Mac, though.

Thanks.

I keep mine the same, but if you want to change it, open AirPort Utility and select 'Edit' on your AirPort. Then go to the 'Wireless' section and select 'Wireless Options...'. From there you can check the box to rename your 5 GHz network. This is with AirPort Utility 6.

Thanks, skorpien and HazyCloud. I just hadn't looked hard enough.
