By Genre

• 60s Pop
• Bubblegum
• Indie Pop
• Indie Rock
• Motown

By Purpose

• Driving Playlist
• Funeral Playlist (as in, the songs that should be played at my funeral should I die unexpectedly)
• Work In Progress (recordings I'm working on that need to be listened to)

Miscellaneous

• To Listen... (songs I've acquired that I need to listen to)

By Year

A smart playlist for every year from 1960 onwards (plus a smart playlist for songs pre-1960)

Each playlist gets filed in a folder to keep my iTunes sidebar tidy ("By Genre", "By Purpose", etc. This comes in handy for the 46 "By Year" playlists ;))

Generally either by function (workout, running, party) or by genre (classical, 80's, children's) or by user (Eric's Mix, Kris' Mix, etc.).

Texas Red Book

That wouldn't happen to be this Texas: Red Book, would it? They're one of my favorite bands!

As for me, I've got two smart playlists to manage my iPods (iPod...clever, huh?, and Shuffled Up)

Besides that:
Never Heard
Recent Additions (3 mo.)
Recent and Hot (3 mo. top played)
Top 50
Top 100
Top OC ReMix
Top Year's
Christmas
Ethereal
Heavy
Sound Test
Typical Radio
WHS Songs

man, I have a lot of playlists. too many to type out really...50-75 or so?

how about I just list my folders instead:

Artist Playlists, Comedy, Compilations, Excercise, Favorites, Hip-Hop/Dance, iMovie Soundtracks, Live Music, Maintenance Playlists, Other Mixes, Road Trips, Themes, & Time.

Colombian music (dont ask why)
Now I have to ask. Not why, but what kind of Colombian music?

Some Colombian artists have become quite popular today with people like Juanes, Shakira and Carlos Vives winning grammy's recently, but maybe you're hiding some old school cumbias or vallenatos in your iTunes library.

(OK. So I'm part Colombian)

I have a number of iPod specific playlists:
iPod Core Albums, iPod Core Singles, iPod Core Ska, iPod Core Latin, iPod Core Swing, iPod Desert Island Discs, iPod Driving, iPod Mini (For my wife's mini).

Others SPLs by Genre:
Children's Music, Classical, World Music, No Genre, Books & Spoken,...

Others SPLs by Kind
Protected AAC, AAC, MP3

Other SPLs by Add/Play Date
Recently Added, Recently Played, Recently Unrated (New stuff that needs to be rated)

Others SPLs by Year:
60's Music, 70's Music, 80's Music, 90's Music,

iTMS free tracks

Others by Rating:
5 Star Tracks, High Rated, Unrated

Not everything goes on the iPod seeing that I have a 20Gb one and my library is ~80Gb right now.

I can't say that I create many playlists intentionally. I have a few specific albums (CDs) in playlists for quick access. I make playlists to create burn lists sometimes. I have a 'Nicks' that I just put some of my favorites in for a random playlist (that being my name). I use Genre for most of my searches.

Am I the only one who finds this strange? lol

Although the playlist is for an unexpected event, preparing for such a thing makes it atleast somewhat expected; I'd find that a depressing playlist to have in my library.
