Weekly Photo Contest: Jan 25 - Feb 1 (Theme: Natural Light)

Welcome to this weeks photo thread!

Theme: Natural Light

I am looking for shots that use natural light in an interesting way. I think a lot of people underestimate just how modifiable natural light is. A simple way to get really flattering light is to turn off the lights inside and take some pictures by the windows which act as some giant softboxes.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Rules:

1. You may only submit one photo per contest.

2. Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

3. The contest runs for exactly one week, starting NOW! (see time/date stamp at the start of this thread)

4. At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible. (Judge has 24 hours to make decision)

5. The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme)

* To see all of our past contests please see the sticky thread here *

I was out hiking and the light was wonderfully golden. Thankfully I had my AE-1 with me that day, loaded with some ISO100 Velvia slide film that soaked it all up.

Shot with a Pinhole camera using expired, ISO 1500, Sepia Polaroid film. Approximately 45 - 55 second exposure using only available/natural light (and a very patient model!) No photoshopping involved, this is exactly how the film was scanned (using a very cheap scanner unfortunately.)

Hopefully this works. I've never posted by I always enjoy this thread. We went to Thailand last week and took a canoe tour through Phang Nga bay. Lucky for us we got to borrow my in-law's camera for the trip. This was at dusk.

Taken a few months ago in very early morning light on a rather overcast day, with a car tyre (that we've used as planters and pathways) behind it as the black background.

Canon 1100D, 55-250mm f/4-5.6, ISO 400, 1/60 sec., f/5.6, 163mm.

Under the Bridge

This channel gradually dried up over the summer until the bed was a foot or so above the level of the lake in the background.

Sunset sky from the lowest elevation in North America (Death Valley California, Badwater Basin - 282 feet below sea level)

silhouette at the lake

I was surprised that there was enough light reflected off the lake for the silhouette.

I really wish the rigging wasn't blocking her face but I love the light.
