I really never could leave well-enough alone.

I modded my 2011 MacBook Pro (once again) to now have my custom multi-colored keyboard backlight scheme. Looks awesome at night, visible in an office setting during the day. It's slightly dimmer and less even, but looks great regardless.

Anybody else do anything half as crazy as me on this forum?

EDIT: As my escapades continued, I stumbled upon some tinted gel plastic - similar to the stuff used in lighting industry. This makes the result much brighter and cleaner.

I opened up my 2011 MacBook Pro and pulled all hardware out, except the battery. I used the amazingly engineered piece of light-diffracting plastic as a stencil to cut out three pieces of light-colored construction paper in the pattern you see, then let static electricity and love hold the paper in place until enough components were reinstalled. Hardest part was opening it repeatedly to try different colours/fix problems.

If you want I can provide you a software to stop dem fans!
That way your rMBP will also get hot enough to light a joint! :D

Anybody care to vote? I'd like to collect some real statistics here, see if it's worth continuing.

Love the rasta. What kind of keyboard layout is that?

EDIT: Found it. It's the Dvorak Keyboard. Interesting.

I love this but I'm afraid to try it. Wish more people would mod their Macs but I guess the deterrent is the overwhelmingly large potential for irreparable damage.

This looks great! I don't have the ability to stomach that much risk to do the same and I question how possible this would be to pull off in a MBPr but hats off to ya for a very cool mod!

Impressive work, interesting to see this mod, though I'm a bit more conservative with my baby - not willing to take it apart of I can help it :)

Aren't you just doing this for fun? Doesn't matter what anyone thinks, surely - just do what you like :)

Personally, I like that purple colour but the interesting variations are really cool so I prefer the rasta! I like the idea of a sunset type colouring, as if the sun just set behind the spacebar! Or maybe a sunrise but I think sunset would be better.

My vote for rasta. My only concern is that typing at night would just make me look at the keyboard the whole time since it is so cool!

So you have a glowy and cool (both meanings) rMBP. Nice. :)

Uploaded new photo, totally fulfilled someone's dreams of an all-pink MacBook Pro
