Clearing up space

Hey, just wondering, are there any useless files I can delete off of my powerbook running tiger, that would clear up any space. I have heard of programs that remove foreign languages, but none for tiger.

Any comments would be helpful.

MacJanitor is a great app that will clear out the log files, which can build up to as much as 1GB in size. ITs available from www.versiontracker.com. Also you can empty your cache in Safari by clicking on the Safari Menu when Safari is running and then click on Empty Cache.

Other than that, there really isn't much to delete.
 
A shareware app called Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net will remove all the printer drivers in the default OS X installation that most of us never use.
 
Apart from Delocalizer listed above, there is also Monolingual.

If you don't use Garageband or iDVD, deleting their files from ~/Library/Application Support will free up gigs. Similarly with printer drivers.

After all that, use WhatSize to scan your HD for large files.

And a tip for next time, do a custom install. Then you can specify what not to install and trim off some of the fat.
 
Also, is there a way to view all programs and files on your HD from largest to smallest? I'm trying to clear things up, too.

Thanks stevep for pointing that app to us. It makes the tasks of removing those drivers so much easier than before. :)

Just a heads up to anyone else that wants to delete their foreign language files to save space...I tried it thinking it would give me a gig or two...instead it saved me only 512mb. :mad:

Just delete applications you don't use. Got 3 gigs back.

Check out the free app called 'Disk Inventory X' from http://www.derlien.com - it gives a graphical view of the kinds of files that take up space on the hard disk and allow you to view the files individually too - makes it very easy to figure out where to focus the delete option. :)

This app is also available from http://www.versiontracker.com and http://mac.softpedia.com - essential websites if you're looking for Mac OS X applications for different purposes.

So, I took your guys advice and used delocalizer to clear up my unused language programs.

To my surpise i saved 2.5 GB, that is def. worth it for me.

If you are running Parallels, you might also want to move that Parallels backup folder from your Documents folder to an external hard drive. That will free up 22.48 GB of space.
