15GB iPod

hey guys i just updated my ipod software on my mac, i have the ipod with the red buttons on it....but i dont see the shuffle songs selection when i turn my ipod on....what could be wrong???

another thing, i have an old 2nd Gen ipod that when i did the software update, (on a PC), it gave me the shuffle song option on the main menu, the software version it put on the ipod was 1.5....i dont get it....
the software i have on my 15GB Ipod on my mac is 2.3...
