i simply dream of the day i can walk into an Apple Store and walk out with a Cinema Display without paying the price of a used car... or else its PB&J for me for quite some time...

i've been looking on eBay for em - but who the hell would ever, EVER sell one? hehe.

so 19" will be overkill. I say keep the 15" cause the prices are way to high anyway.

NO, DUNDEE HEAD!!! As soon the 15" is gone, the 17" will be the bottom line, which means it's price will drop and a 19" will be about what the 17" is now. :p

Don't you people know that this is how things work in the tech industry! I mean like, duh!

I noticed this also when i shopping at compusa.com.

(Not Available In-Store) Please Note: This is a clearance item. This product is sold as is and cannot be returned. See product warranty for details. For more details, click here. This item is only available for purchase online.

that was right under the 15inch apple LCD.

Screen size

Those who think that 17" is big enough must have never sat in front of, much less worked on, a 19, 21, 23 or larger inch screen. I play on a 21" at home and have dual 21 Cinemas at work, and I still want more.

I'm just not willing to pay for the dual 23's for the time being... but check back in a few months. ProTools 6 is coming out (or is out, I can't remember), and I'll be looking for more screen real estate to put panels.

My Monitor Predictions:

- 17" Wide iMacs across the board (w/ no 19" models)
- Discontinue 15" Flat Panels
- Drop 17" Studio's price to match old 15" price
- Introduce 19" Studio Displays

I sold mine on eBay here in the UK - got a great price too. I don't miss it TOO much.

I am intrigued that the line has been dropped. Surely there is a market out there for 15" But then, I guess apple knows that whilst i can only speculate...

10 days

This morning one of the biggest Dutch apple-dealers (MacHouse) announced in a newspaper-ad that it has to clear out 1000 Mac's within 10 days. They list the following models:

- all 15 inch iMac's - so not the 17 inch topmodel (prices: 1219, 1499, 1799 euro)
- the 15 and 22 inch LCD's (619 and 1999 euro)
- 14 inch iBook (1999 euro)
- Powerbook 667 (2349) euro)
- G4 Dual 1Ghz - the old one probably (2299 euro)

Prices will drop further in the next 10 days

Remember: Apple-prices in Europe are much higher than in the States.

Conclusion: 15 inch iMacs and 15 and 22 inch LCDs discontinued

What kind of used car are you buying when comparing price of the LCDs?

Certainly nothing you would have to shovel more money into to get some decent use out of it.

As for 15 or 17 being enough, if you do video or graphics you know this is not the case.

I would love a 19" LCD on a swivel base like the iMacs have to replace the big 19" glass tube monitor on my desk.

It's a distinct possibility that Apple is discontinuing the 15" iMac to have an edge over Gateway and other computer makers. Wouldn't it be nice to know that even for $1299, you could have a computer with a high-resolution, 17" widescreen LCD display?

They could also stand to update the performance specs, but one can't help but think that Apple is going with the most visible upgrade possible (literally).

Personally, if they are going to drop the price of the 17 inch they need to keep the 15 inch and drop the price of it to around 299. That would be the smarter thing to do.

I personally feel they are goihng to remodel the lower end monitor.

They need a smaller lcd for people to pick from.

I agree with Mudbug. I've been using a 21" and two 19" monitors for some time and I would not want to go any smaller than 19". I think a 19" iMac for around 2K would be remarkable. Add a speed bump and you've got a hot ticket item.

I think hi point is that the 15" iMac could be pushed further down the price pipeline, very close to the e-mac. Could this possibly be a bad thing?

I know this has been discussed before, but ss the proud papa of a 17" iMac, the proportions are fabulous and it makes me smile every time I sit down. I think a 19" LCD might start to look silly floating over a 10" sno-cone.

Refreshes

I think we'll see 17" iMacs across the board, the 17" LCD drop to about $599 and a 19" LCD introduced. A 19" iMac may be intro'd in the next speed bump after this one. Let hope for 1GHZ also! Powerbook should be updated as well to 1GHz.

I'm on a 21" right now at work

And I totally agree. Bigger the better.

LCD don't require the huge front to back depth that larger CRT monitors do and that make 19" imacs droolworthy.
