Hello...I just noticed after updating to the newest macOS Big Sur, 11.2.1, my 2019, 16-inch MacBook Pro doesn't seem to be charging. For instance, I left it plugged in overnight and the battery didn't charge at all, if anything, when I started it the battery seemed lower. No, I haven't calibrated the battery since I purchased it as it was something I didn't know about until I read a post on here. The Activity Monitor doesn't show any application hogging the battery. Sure, the USB-C port I use to charge the battery could have gone bad, I guess, but past that, is anyone else seeing an issue with the battery after updating to 11.2.1?

It could just be the Optimized Battery Charging feature that's now built into Big Sur.

I let the battery drain to calibrate it and then plugged it in overnight to recharge. After recharging, the battery is still only at 86% for a rarely used MacBook Pro. I remember when it used to get charged to 100% before Big Sur. A little frustrating.

I saw something surprising yesterday that I'd never noticed before - probably the optimized battery charging that chrfr mentioned. All yesterday my battery stayed around 86% while plugged in. I clicked on the battery icon in the menu bar and there was some wording to the effect that charging has been suspended and that the laptop was infrequently used on battery power. I seem to remember it gave me the option to charge to full immediately. Could this be related to what you're seeing? Do you see any messages to that effect under the battery icon?

I'm afraid that I used the laptop quite a bit later in the day on battery power. This morning the laptop was charged to 100% so I can't get the exact wording of those messages for you.

Ok, so I just checked again, well over 24 hours, more like 32 hours, and with the laptop plugged in the battery icon shows 100% charged. Completely odd!!!

svenmany - why Apple would develop the OS to stop charging at 86% is beyond me. I'm sure Apple laptop owners are going around saying they only need 86%, what's 14% anyway. I don't need that extra 14%. Really?!?!?!?!

I really know very little about the topic, but I do remember reading something about the ideal charge for a battery to maintain long life is 80% or so. So, I bet they're doing it to maximize battery life.

At this point I'm going to need some user training. If I really can't anticipate when I'm going to need my laptop running on battery, then should I disable the optimization thing? Anyway, this might not be your issue, and I don't want to hijack your thread, but here's a picture of that setting:

This sounds exactly like the Optimized Battery Charging feature. If you're using your computer primarily on AC power, the battery will stay healthier if it's not 100% charged. If you're using the computer on battery regularly, just turn off the Optimized setting in the Battery System Preference and be done with it.
