Is it just me or is the hinge really loose/flimsy on the 16" model? Just played with several display models at the store and the resistance on the hinge is probably 1/2 - 2/3 of what it is on my 2015, which has a really nice, tight feel to it, without being too tight. With the 16", you could hit the table lightly and the whole display would shake.

Maybe display models aren't the best example to use since they get beat hard, but it was definitely a sloppy feel on all of them.

I know hinges can be tightened, but F having the store crack open your brand new factory sealed computer to do that.

Anyone else notice this or feel this way?

I noticed this immediately going from a 2015 to the 16". Doesn't really seem to impact performance, but I agree with the fact that I'd prefer it to be tighter than it is by default.

I did not notice a difference so you got me thinking about it.

I have the following laptops that I tested:

MacBook Pro 16
MacBook Pro 13 2018
MacBook Air 2012
MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012
MacBook Pro 17 Mid 2010

No science here as in using some device to measure pull required, but I would rank the MacBook Pro 16 as looser than all but the older MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 17, which have a lot of use and have never been tightened or worked on. I would say it is 85% or so of the resistance of my MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Pro Retina (very pleased that this laptop never loosened up even after nearly 7 years).

However, I also do not think mine is "loose" either. The tug needed to close feels about right for a laptop. It holds where I want it. Bumping the machine does not make it shake or move, at least not yet.

I hope we avoid the dreaded loose hinge problem that some devices had in the past.

Nothing here that would make we want to return and swap out for another device.

Of course, the lightest hinge of all is on my iPad Pro 10.5........ :)
