It's pretty much been a guarantee when I try to transfer large files from an external drive to another external drive via a USB-C to USB Hub, that the transfer will fail, and not only that, it force ejects all the drives and has sometimes corrupted the drives.

This is terrifying me as I need to do a lot of data backup. Transfers work when plugged via a single USB to USB-C adapter, but every brand of HUB I have tried has failed me.

I've heard about major issues with Catalina and external drive transfers but of course, Apple won't confirm anything. Anyone else with this issue and find a solution?

Sounds like the USB ports on the MacBook are not be able to supply enough voltage to power the hub and the connected drives.

Very possible... I'll look at an externally powered HUB. If anyone else has this issue, I'd love to know.

I had this issue today, but under different circumstances. I was trying out some alternate cabling setups, having my external SSDs (two in one enclosure) connected through a dock vs. connecting the SSD enclosure directly to the MBP with an extra cable. When I tried this with a 6ft. cable, I got spontaneous ejects of the drives.

But here's the strange part, the enclosure DOES have its own power supply, so it shouldn't be a matter of it pulling too much current than the MBP can provide. Need to do some more investigating on this.

I think something weird is going on with USB-C and catalina. Never had these issues on my 2014 MBP.
