I purchased a base 16" MBP m1 Pro with 16GB RAM. Occasionally, when the power completely drains, and i plug it back in, I get some weird display issues. I did a factory restore, and it persists. Getting mixed opinions, some saying to return/exchange, some saying it's a software bug that will be fixed. No other issues that I have noticed besides this.

I have the 16 for more than a week now and I have not seen that at all. If that happened to me, I would send it back
It only happens if the mac completely runs out of power and shuts off and then you plug it in ( and it doesn't happen each time ) that's the only way Iv'e gotten it to re-produce. Have you ever tried draining your battery and then plugging it in?

Ah, I have not drained it completely. I had the same issue with my xps upon waking up when it was sleeping or upon start up. I sent it in and they fixed it.

Looks like you did not use the $19.99 apple rag to clean your display.

Ram defective. If this would happening after warranty without apple care, you could throw it away. Financial write-off.

Only time I've seen this type of behavior is on a computer that is either defective or on its way out. I would exchange for another one.

On a side note - draining the battery to zero is a horrible practice for longevity.
I don't typically do that on purpose but that's how I originally encountered this issue so I tried it again to try and re-produce it.

Is this the new prevailing thought...(a serious question)

and to OP...I would not keep the system.
Lithium batteries live longer if kept between 20% - 80% of max charge. It’s why Teslas don’t charge to 100% by default, for example.

To the OP, I wouldn’t accept a display that does that for any reason. Seems like a time bomb waiting to go off.

You should return the base 16 for the 1tb version anyway, for 200 extra bucks it’s worth every penny. Plus faster R/W speeds
