So a little over a month ago I scored a great deal on a BNIB Space Grey MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019), 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB, 500gb SSD for $2100 from craigslist. It's great but as soon as the 16" came out I kind of feel bleh. BUT one of the reasons why I got my current MBP is because I got it for such a great deal.

Looking at the 16" $2799 specs I am unsure if I should sell my current MBP and get the 16" $2799 with my veteran discount which brings it to $2519 + tax = $2764.31 total. Is the performance bump worth the extra $700 I would be paying extra for?

Any computer that is 2 years or younger won't notice much difference.

Unless you want to spend over $6000.

No, you're not going to see a major difference in performance. The only reason that would be worth upgrading is if you hated the butterfly keyboard and wanted to get the new one, which for me is a joy to type on.

Hmmm. How about this - advertise the one you have to see what you can sell it for - if you can make back the cost then it could be worth selling to buy the new one. But if you can't make back the cost then its getting less clear.

If you got a great deal, enjoy what you have now.

In three years, when it's time to "move up", the choices will be even better.

This is what I was thinking BEFORE the 16" came out lol

Lets say I can make back the cost, $2100, the total of the new macbook with my discount is $2764.31 with a difference of $664.31 and is that difference worth:

- "better" reliable keyboard
- physical esc key
- better GPU compared to the 560x
- 500gb more SSD
- better thermals

if you 1) really can’t stand the butterfly’s and 2) are doing GPU-intensive work id say it’s worth it

get rid of the butterfly
I agree. In a year or so, your butterfly machine is likely to lose a lot of its value as folks will have a choice now. I would sell the butterfly to someone for $2100 and then jump ship.

Also the graphics is like 2X-3X better for video work (or even gaming - at high settings)

You guys honestly make good points on getting it now.

has it been confirmed that 2020 will be a redesign?

Also Adorama is having a discount on the 16” right now with a code, which is comparable to my discount if I got it from Apple. Will Best Buy price match Adorama? I know Best But won’t price match my military discount through Apple.

According to 2 employees at the Apple store yesterday it wouldn't be worth it. At least I was told it wasn't worth it for me to upgrade from my 15" 2018. :) I did purchase the 16" base model however and couldn't be happier with my decision. Love the speakers, keyboard and new screen.

LOL! they don't know.. they are like 20! news has been out forever that the old keyboard is a mess... I'd unload that thing like bad habit :)

I would say definitely not. Keep what you have and buy the next gen which will have 12 cores.
