I think it's a shame that so few manufacturers have made covers with the Camera Control button. Most covers today have a cutout, so when you hold the phone in your hand, it doesn't feel nice and comfortable, because of the notch in the side. In addition, the phone is more exposed to dust and scratches. On many covers, the camera button becomes more difficult to use, because of a cutout that is too small, or a cutout that is too poorly made. I have also observed that the frame on the cover is looser around the cutout, which also does not contribute to a quality feeling.

I usually love Caudabe, and Nomad's covers - but it doesn't seem like they will implement a Camera Control, since they have found the "best solution". Spigen has just managed to put Camera Control on one model of their covers - why not put them on all of them? Come on Spigen. This also applies to all the other premium cover manufacturers. Come on!

New iPhone features are usually adopted quickly, but this time the case makers have been sleeping too long. If you don't want to implement a Camera Control button, then why don't you make a "F**k The CC Button" edition, where you just close the camera control hole completely, and then those of us who want a closed and comfortable case can disable the button and pretend it doesn't exist - instead of those half-baked solutions.

....yeah, I just needed to vent. Don't you miss more cases with Camera Control, or do you think a cutout is nice?

Wasn‘t there a thread with a list of all cases with a cc-Cover? I thought it was updated regularly, but cannot find it…

I wasn't aware of that list, so thanks for it.

But the list also shows that there is still a lot missing. The tendency is that it is the more unknown brands that have a Camera Control, as well as primarily covers that are made to be extra tough - and it seems that the Pro models are primarily favored.

I miss the "big" brands coming up with a properly finished product, and it's just been a long time now, compared to what usually happens.

I agree; for the most part, cutouts don’t cut it.

We are up to around 20 cases with CC buttons, though only a handful have buttons that are equally sensitive to the underlying camera control. These fully functional cases are still only offered by Apple, Spigen, and Otterbox. The recently revised dBrand Grip is close but, depending upon whose report you believe, it may or may not be quite there. The remainder appear to be sub par, though perhaps sufficient for those who don’t care to use the CC to its full potential.

One thing to consider is that there’s a reasonable probability that Apple will be going to 100% capacitive buttons on the iPhone 17. If this happens the case situation is going to get far worse. One solution—which isn’t going to work for everyone—is moving to cases without any buttons at all. The Arc Pulse, Suti PhoneBack, Pitaka/Benks/Latercase, and other ultra-thin designs bypass the need for buttons altogether. Of course, they give up some protection in exchange, but for those who don’t need Defender/Rebel levels of protection, they provide a viable alternative.

I hope they find a solution in that case. Those partially open covers, such as Pikata, are a bad solution, yes it provides a little protection if the phone is dropped and hits a corner, but on the other hand the phone gets scratched when it is in a bag or jacket.. In addition, it really ruins the iPhone's beautiful design, but that's just my opinion. So rather caseless.

Something else the case manufacturers could have done - just put a normal button in the side of the cover, without pressure sensitivity. The button could be used to open the camera and take pictures. Done. Those scroll functions are a gimmick anyway.

I am so annoyed that I am locked to an Apple silicone case if I want a cover that is comfortable to hold in the hand, without notches and cuts in the side.

Just one thing to mention as a follow up, Spigen actually has their CC button on two cases, the Ultra Hybrid T and the Tough Armor T. They’re both good. The Otterbox Lumen also has a good CC button, but at its higher price it’s a hard sale against the Spigen cases which are dirt cheap on the Spigen eBay store.

As for me personally, I’m all in on the Arc Pulse, Suti, and Pitakas. I like to feel some of the raw phone while still having a modicum of protection.

Spigen should have a camera button on all their cases. They've done it on two cases - do it on all of them, not just those clear plastic covers, and Spigen should remember that the iPhone 16 (without Pro) also has a camera control - don't understand why this luxury should be exclusive to the Pro models.

Just then Mous came out with their Limitless 6.0 with a camera button, for 75 dollars, and the button isn't stuck, but can be popped out 🤦‍♂️

It's just before I consider selling my 16 and finding a 15 Pro again, just to get a decent selection of cases.

I suspect Spigen and Otterbox will eventually add the CC button to most, if not all, of their models, but not until they sell through what is likely a large back stock of cases with cutouts.

Mous really dropped the ball with the 99 cent AliExpress CC button on their $75 “premium” case. It’s hard to imagine how they thought that was going to be satisfactory.

The alternatives for me were, go back to the 15 as you’re suggesting, live with the Apple Silicone and a few other clear cases which is not the end of the world but not ideal, or explore the various “alt” cases with exposed buttons. It turns out I actually really like the super minimalist cases with exposed buttons and would never have tried them if it wasn’t for this CC button mess.

Well, thanks for the idea… :) I always wondered, why wouldn‘t anybody produce separate camera control buttons to insert into a case with a cutout… I wasn‘t aware they were available on Aliexpress.

I just ordered one for my Caudabe Sheath, being well aware that the shape of the Sheath’s cutout won‘t really fit such an insert perfectly, but for 99 ct plus some shipping it is well worth a try!

Good idea. Please come back with some pictures when you have received the button. Excited to see how it fits with a Caudabe Sheath.

I do have a Supcase UB Mag clear case for my iPhone 16 Plus. While the cover button generally works, it can be slightly finicky sometimes. Fortnately, Spigen did a good job with the cutout on their Ultra Hybrid case, so using the camera button feels natural even with the case installed.
