I've been using my 160 GB WD External Hard Drive for about a year now on my 15" Macbook Pro and it's worked fine for keeping all of my iTunes music.
Just yesterday I plugged it into my right USB port and it would power up and I could hear it spinning but it would not mount.
I know it's not a problem with my USB port because other objects still communicate with it, and I know it's not the cable because I tried plugging it into a PC and it seemed to recognize it. However, it would not show up in the My Computer dialog, which leads me to conclude that the problem lies in the hard drive.
I carry all of my music on it so I take it around with me pretty much wherever I bring my computer so it gets a little beat up, but since it's powering up and running I can't really pronounce it dead can I?
It's showing up in System Profiler so something's happening.
