I've had my MBPr just over a year. After about 11 months I noticed a spot on the screen with stuck pixels. It was a bright light, and only visible with a dark background. However upon really close inspection, I noticed that the screen actually had a tiny hole right in that spot! It was the size of a pin hole, maybe a bit bigger. Very definitely a hole right in the screen. I baby this thing. No way I caused it. Impossible. I did a bit of searching and found that other people are indeed reporting this problem. At first I blamed myself and thought maybe I did something. As a result I let the warranty expire. Having dealt with Apple for many years, and given I have so may of their products, I made an appointment anyway. They replaced the display free of charge. Lucky. I have a Samsung replacement display now. Others report that they have the same problem recur on multiple replacement screens. So, I'm not sure I'm out of the woods yet. Anyhow, if you're having this issue I'm curious to hear your story. Apparently it also happens with Samsung displays.

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Paste this into terminal to find out what sort of display you have. If it's LSN it's Samsung, otherwise it's LG.

BTW, I tried to post this on Apple's forum and it was censored/banned. I guess you can see why they want to keep concern from growing, but wow I'm blown away that my screen had freakin holes in it. I hope they fix this on the next version of this machine. Oh, and BTW, when you get a mac fixed always check all the screws and pick the machine up and wiggle it around to see if everything is seated correctly. I've had almost every Apple machine I own repaired at some point, and at least 50% of the time a screw is left incorrectly seated, or something is not put back together snuggly. This is probably the most boring part of fixing a computer, and few technicians seem to take the time to get it right. This retina was creaking like a windows machine after I got it back! I had to take it back again to get the door put on properly.
