I've been lookin' around at installing linux on my 3G (already have. hehe)
And a lot of the info about iPod + Linux says that it will void your warranty.

Now, I know messing with the firmware does void it, but if I restore it to factory settings, will Apple really know that I messed around with the siren that is Linux on my iPod?

I'm just curious... *shrug*

Nope. It won't void your warranty at all :)

You could compare it to... installing Linux on your Mac, then it getting all screwy, and then just reinstalling OS X from the CD.. no one knew you ever did it! :)

Really, it's impossible to "void" your warranty, unless you move to a country in which it is not valid, or something like that.

If I were to smash an iPod with a sledgehammer, I would not "void" the warranty. It would still be fully in effect. Repairs to cover the damage would not be covered, however.

If you damage the iPod, repairs are not covered. If the iPod fails on its own, repairs are covered. Simple as that.

Not to thread jack, but I've tried to find a nice installer to put Podzilla on my 1st gen mini but to no avail. I've seen pictures of it running on a mini and lots of documentation that says things work but no clearcut way to put it on there. Anyone have it on their 1st gen mini or know of a way to get it on there?

Thx!

Just the tread I was looking for (at least I think)

Well today me being the want-to-be nerd that I am decided to instal linux on my 30GB iPod photo. Big mistake all it will do is flash the apple simble and then show a file with a ! mark and then turns off. Now its on my windows PC :)( ) and I have no clue how to reset it to factory settings. Any help please?

PS if I was to bring this to a best buy would then know?

I think this forum is better suited for your problem: http://ipodlinux.org/forums/

Good luck in the fix, btw...I don't think Best Buy knows anything period! ;)

In Start > Programs > iPod, there should be an iPod Updater which can restore the factory settings.
