Please tell me that Apple have not removed the ability to use remote control headphones with the iPod????!
Skiniftz said:Too thin? The remote socket is half the thickness of the the 3.5mm headphone socket (which is the same on all iPods).
I'm not interested in a dock remote control - I need a remote for on the move so I can change tracks without fumbling around with the iPod.
Skiniftz said:Besides this doesnt answer my question - does the video iPod support a remote or not?
Skiniftz said:I would expect the control circuitry to be included on one of the ASIC's. The thing can play back video. I'm sure they can figure out how to make a remote.

Skiniftz said:The dock connector definitely supports remote control - I have the Alpine adapter for my car stereo which uses the dock connector for remote control and audio.
If there is no cabled remote for the new iPod then I am not getting one - the thing is useless to me without one. I seriously cannot be bothered having to fumble around getting the thing out of the belt clip just to change tracks; I'm the sort of person who likes to track forwards and backwards a lot.
I'll stick with my 60Gb Photo for now.

that should do the job. pity it doesn't use the audio out from the dock, but being un-amplified it would be a little harder. and it's cheeep, so it's all good.
plus looking like the old apple ones can't be bad![]()
mduser63 said:The audio out from the Dock is (at least on my iPod video) louder by far than the audio coming out of the headphone jack. They could have put an adjustable attenuator (aka volume control) in the remote, and used the audio coming off the dock. Also, it seems like there must be some way to get headphone audio out of the dock, because on my universal dock, the volume control on the iPod works even with audio taken from the line out on the back of the dock.
bigandy said:ok, fine, i was wrong, i assumed that it was line only, yeah yeah yeah. actually on my 3G, it's volume control doesn't affect the out port on the dock which it shipped with.
but yeah, ok, i was wrong. and i don't admit that much, so feel happy i did this time. now shut up.

mduser63 said:Oddly, when using the Apple remote with my 4G iPod in the universal dock, the volume on the line out changes, but the volume on the iPod remains fixed. However, on the 5G, the remote actually controls the volume on the iPod (ie, the volume slider moves back and forth). The scroll wheel also adjusts the line out volume on the 5G, but has no effect at all on the 4G.
devman said:The scroll wheel volume on my 5G does not adjust the line out volume when connected to my car (using a dock connector plug. i.e. not using the headphone out on the top of the iPod, but the dock-style plug on the bbottom of the iPod).
Hmm, £0.99 + £5.99 shipping, is £6.98, convert to USD... $12.21, versus a very shady (and un-Apple like) $18, plus shipping...bigandy said:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Apple-IPOD-He...851611141QQcategoryZ79877QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

mduser63 said:Mine behaves the same way. The scroll wheel volume control does affect the line out volume on the universal dock (I just tested it) with the 5G, but not the 4G.
