So I left my Macbook Pro on for a few days without realising as I had the screen dimmed to nothing, on coming back to use the machine I was unable to see anything on screen despite multiple power downs.

I reset the SMC and the other thing you can do (bad memory) and has been blank all week, however I was able to rule out the GPU as it worked perfect driven by an external display only.

So today rolls around and I had a genius appointment booked for 12pm and this morning I turned on the machine and lo and behold it was working fine, I arrived at my appointment and the issue once again happened but after rebooting the issue has not appeared all day after multiple reboots and tests.

Genius guy said it could be screen but most likely logic board but I was quoted £318 to which I would rather get a new retina 15".

Despite this the machine appears to now work perfectly so it seemed like the mac was scared it would be replaced or taken apart and self healed despite being broken over a week but used everyday on an external screen.

Sorry to bore you just sharing my story.
