U.S. Cellular to Offer iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on November 8

U.S. Cellular, will begin offering the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c on November 8, according to an email the company sent out on Friday afternoon. U.S. Cellular, the fifth largest carrier in the United States, first announced that it would begin carrying Apple products back in May, but did not give a timeline on when the products might appear.

Aside from a release date, U.S. Cellular has not given additional information on plan details, such as pricing, but the company's current plans offer unlimited talk and text with 300MB to 75GB of data starting at $40 per month and it is likely that device prices will be competitive with other retailers.

While Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile offered the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c at launch, many smaller, regional carriers did not begin selling the device until October 1.

Supplies of Apple's iPhone 5s remain constrained, with estimated shipping times from the Apple Store remaining at 2 to 3 weeks in the United States. iPhone 5c supplies remain plentiful, with all models and capacities shipping within 24 hours.

It's only a regional carrier.

On top of that, 5 million customers is pretty small compared to the "small" national carrier T-Mobile which only has 33 million customers. ;)
 
Cool. They have the best coverage in my area. Been around the longest too. Now they have reasonable plans as well. Not as good as what I get with Page Plus, but Page Plus hasn't gotten LTE so no 5c or 5s. I might jump back on board.

Edit: Never mind. I see in the details of the plan they charge $40/month for every smart phone. This makes the cheapest plan $80 for unlimited talk/text and 300mb data. I'll be staying right where I am.

Ahh, makes sense. Here, I live in the middle of no where and we're covered by a random cellular company too, but Verizon recently bought it out.
 
About time. They are the only carrier that works in my house. I have hated every Android phone I've owned. Existing android phones never get updated. It seems like after a while they get flaky have have to be rest so I get the practice of setting it up repeatedly.
 
Finally!! I can't wait to switch back to U.S. Cellular with their reliable service. I'll actually be able to talk on my phone on the first floor of my house. Sayonara Verizon and your crappy PCS coverage.
 
Their data-only plans seem reasonable for tablet devices. But the smartphone device connection charge is absolutely ridiculous!

Well they just pulled out of Chicago and St. Louis and so are a lot smaller than they used to be.

Nobody cares for your attitude. People do, however, care about US Cellular because it's the fifth-largest carrier in the US, and even you obviously care because you not only read the article (or at least the headline--who am I kidding) and commented on it. Plus, you're reading a site about Apple rumors, which at this point seems to be mostly about iPhone--so if you really don't like it, I think we'd all appreciate it if you just stopped.

This. It is my perception that US Cellular excels in the Midwest and in other areas that are poorly served by national carriers like Verizon (which is probably a close second in these areas). They are also better rated in customer satisfaction than many of these carriers. This is exciting news for many.
 
This is probably why they just came out with new and higher priced plans :)

In WI they probably are the best coverage-wise.

Thank you for that. People impertinently complaining about impertinence gets annoying. US Cellular does not operate where I live, but does operate where a friend lives and as some have spoken here, where US Cellular DOES operate, they are generally well-liked. They may not be perfect, but if AT&T, Verizon, et al used them as a model of how to operate, their subscribers would most undoubtedly be happy with the result.
 
If US Cellular is getting them, then straight talk will follow soon enough. I love paying $45/month for unlimited everything instead of $90-$100.

Straight Talk is just an AT&T and Verizon MVNO (Verizon for iPhone where I live, but I'm not sure if they use AT&T depending on where you live or not). Shouldn't they technically should already support it, and it's just a matter of when they decide to start selling it to facilitate the activation process? What happens if you BYOD and it's an iPhone? I know their online activator doesn't support that for any iPhone, but can customer service do that for you?

(Unlike what will probably happen with US Cellular, it's not like you're getting a subsidy, anyway...)
