16Gb in 2010 MacBook pro fixed with osx 10.9?

Has anyone tried osx 10.9 mavericks developer preview 4 to see if the 16gb compatibility issue is fixed?

As far as I know, the compatibility issue is a hardware one, not software. So you probably won't see a remedy even with Mavericks.

It's a hardware limitation with the memory controller on the CPU. Intel Spec sheet example for that generation : http://ark.intel.com/products/49666

It's not going to get resolved. If you need more RAM, get a later MBP.

The limitation in the Late '08 MacBooks was a BIOS/firmware limitation. In other words, it was a software limitation rather than a hardware one. The hardware could always see the full 8GB, but software could only address up to about 6GB.

But the one in the 2010 MacBooks, as far as I know, is actually a hardware limitation.

Only in the 13" (and the 2010 Macbook and Mac Mini) which use the Nvidia chipset. The 15" is still limited to 8GB.

13" 2010 MBPs (and Mac minis and MacBooks) running C2D processors (the 13" models) can run 16GB of 1066MHz RAM.

However, 2010 MBPs running i5 or i7 processors (the 15" and 17" models) remain limited to 8GB.

It's unusual for the lesser specced computer to accept more RAM, but there ya go!
