With all the talk of 8GB vs 16GB RAM - what kind of prices are most people finding?

I have a mid-2012 13" MBP DDR3-1600. I was checking Crucial.com and saw the 16GB is $173.99 (not including 5% discount).

I've always gone with Crucial and found them to be a great quality brand. Are they any other options that offer same quality at a lower price?

Or - even better - any other Crucial Coupons :)

I just bought some on amazon, 16g (2x8) 1600mhz kit for £85, that about $132 at today's rate. Not crucial, uk based firm called komputerbay. No idea how it compares but it got good reviews from other mbp users. Ocz vengeance may be worth a look too, I believe that's a similar price at the moment.

8gb kit (2x4) was about £40 so little under half.

I only went for 16gb because I could, I don't believe I need more than 8 at this moment in time but figured I can so what the heck. If the price is more of an issue 8gb would suffice for most users. I'll report on my usage when I know better how 16 does.

Newegg, 2x8gb for $79.99 free shipping. This was G.Skill 1333 RAM for my late 2011 MBP. Never had a problem with G.Skill, used it in a desktop before too.

Depends what voltage ram you wanted. They have the most common type which is 1.5V, but I heard the new 2012 macbook pros may be using the 1.35V (low voltage ram) it may give u a slight (unnoticeable) battery life improvement if thats the case. Here I found Crucial 16GB DDR3 (PC10600) 204 pin 1.35V on JR.com for $139.99. I personally have a 15" Macbook Pro Late 2011 and was looking to get the low voltage Crucial ram. I ended up buying some Mushkin ram from newegg that was supposed to run at 1600Mhz and 1.35V but for some reason it downclocked on my Macbook to 1333Mhz. So I returned them to Newegg and went with the tried and true Corsair 16GB DDR3 (PC12800) 1600Mhz that run at 1.5V and it's been running great as advertised. If you look around there are some discount codes for J&R if you google for them. Here is the link to the item: http://www.jr.com/crucial/pe/CRT_2K102464BF1/
