Hello everyone,

I posted a message on the Troubleshooting board a while back but I'm not sure how many people read that board.

Does anyone know if you can restore a brand new 8gb 3GS from a 16gb 3G backup?

I lost my 3G and I'm likely to buy a 3GS. Unfortunately, here in the UK, I probably won't be able to get a 16gb 3GS. Obviously 16 doesn't go into 8 but I have a feeling the backup is just a small file that contains no media, only contacts, SMSs etc.

Many thanks.

Depends on the size of your apps that you have backup.

Say you only have 4GB in apps. Than sure you can backup easy.

However if you have say 10GB in apps. Than you will have to manually deselect apps in order to fix into the 8gb iPhone.

Honestly why buy 8gb 3GS? You can find used very good condition 16GB 3GS on eBay or craigslist for very good prices.

In the US, they go for around $250 for good condition 16GB 3GS.

Cheers for the replies everyone. Good to know.

I may well get a 16gb 3GS on eBay but we'll see. My apps were certainly less than 8gb so that shouldn't be a problem.
