Not sure what the deal is but I'm transcoding a 15 second 6k komodo clip into prores4444 in premiere pro. So i can do some roto on it. These MacBooks always seem to play nicer with prores. Cpu and GPU Temps pegged. Fan doesn't come on....
I lose my cool and manually turn it on medium with istat after a couple minutes.

Perhaps Apple needs to modify the fan rules?

I've been doing a pretty complex sky replacement in the latest Ae (still rosetta/intel) which brought back multicore (thank god) and on export to ProRes4444 I'm getting about 94° C, full tilt on CPU/GPU. Footage is 4k Arri Raw. For me, the performance is INSANE compared to my previous gen full spec 16". My new 16" M1Max full spec is doing circles all while staying completely silent. I don't personally see any issues as it's able to maintain about that temp. I imagine if the export kept going past my 4 minute render, it may have to do more to stay at temp. But for me, I'm quite impressed. I thought I saw a MaxTech video where it can get to around 100°C or so. Once the export is done, I just about immediately drop to around 50°C.

Agree. These laptops are beastly.
