hey guys,

I'm about to buy a 17" mbp and I'm really thinking of going for the hi-res option. I have two concerns though:

1. Is there a significant difference between the two resolutions(can someone post pics)?
2. Ive heard some sad cases about glitches and what not, is this common?

Thanks

for $100 what's not to love about the hd screen. You get better battery life with it as well (the non hd 17"s don't have the LED backlight)

17" 2.6 MacBook Pro 4G 7200RPM/200G HD Matte

I've owned them all and so far 17" hi res mbp hands down THE best notebook I've ever owned!

I'd go hi-res.

CCFL backlights are the pits as far as I'm concerned (fading, power consumption and slow "warm up").

I have a hi-res screen on my 17" and love the screen real estate.

It is truly the only notebook I know of that is:

-light weight enough to transport daily
-has enough battery life to actually use the battery (i'm getting 4+h on aggressive battery saving settings)
-has enough screen space to replace a desktop
-Has enough power and graphics power to replace a desktop (I don't game on PC's)
-has a small enough power adapter not to curse everytime you carry it with the machine
