When might that be estimated to arrive? And why wasnt it there yesterday?

The technology hasn't really been developed. Apple isn't holding out on us, the developer of the LED screen is. I've heard as late as 2009 before a 17" high-resolution monitor is introduced. That date came out of a story when Apple announced their partnership with the LED screen manufacturer.

It would be intresting if you could post where u heard this!

True that the technology probably hasn't been developed yet. But I don't think that they're holding out on us since it's probably in their best interests to release it as soon as it's economically feasible. Oh well, no choice but to wait unless we want to build it ourselves .

1920 x 1200 LED Screens Not Before 2009?

Can we get a corroboration on this "fact"? I wanted to wait 'til October or January latest for the 17" 1920 x 1200 LED. Is this an impossability for at least 2 more years? Because if so, I'd rather pull the trigger when it ships with Leopard than two years further.

If you want to know when it will be available, ask steve jobs...and why do you say yesterday? 15 inch MBP's got upgraded with LED screens 3 days ago now.

If you want the 17" model, just buy it now and don't worry about it. At the VERY earliest they'd ship sometime much later this year, and we'd probably know about it months ahead of time.

But no one actually makes LED back lighting for a 17" screen.

It's not a big deal, regardless.

Just saw hi-res 17"

I just saw the hi-res 17" in the Apple store in Emeryville. The print was ridiculously small -- you would need a magnifying glass. The HD movie looked pretty good, though. In any case, they're obviously available now if you want one. The new 15" looked very nice, though not particularly better than the Macbook display to my eyes.

Two years is a looooooooooong time. And some people are knocking the 15" LED as nothing more than changing the bulb that lights the exact same LCD screen we've used for years.

If that's true, I don't see what would be so terribly difficult about changing the bulb in a slightly bigger display. :)

Small Print Can Be Blown Up + Zoomed Into

Yes but not LED Widescreen. Of course the print is going to look ultra small. That's why the system lets you blow up text and zoom in on parts of the screen. I'm not going to let the text size not adjusted by an employee at the store detract me from buying the 1920 x 1200 model. My question is about the availability of the 17" Widescreen in LED technology. If it's by January 2008 I can wait. If it's not 'til 2009 then I will buy after Leopard ships with it.

Anyone here know the truth about when much higher res LED screens will be shipping in quantity? Thanks.

What's difficult is apparently no one makes a system to backlight a 17" screen. It gets increasingly more expensive the larger the screen. 15" is already very new. I doubt it will be two years also, but I would just buy now if you want it. I don't really see why the backlighting would make anyone wait for more than a couple of weeks, tops (though I do appreciate the move for environmental reasons!)
