So, Apple says the maximum amount of RAM a 2011 17" Macbook Pro can take is 8GB, both Early and Late 2011.

A Genius just told me that if I try to upgrade it to 16GB it would probably not even boot up...

There's however a lot of people claiming to be using 16GB... even stores that offer the 16GB upgrade option when buying a used 17" MBP... other people selling on ebay and amazon claiming they got 16GB...

What the hell?

LMAO, that 'genius' isn't living up to the name.

I'm on a Late 2011 17" MBP right here, 16GB of DDR3-1600Mhz RAM
