Here's a tip ( that you may have already heard...! ): from what I can tell by looking at images online, the A1151 / A1212 / A1229 / A1261 use the same case, and a skin that fits one, may well fit all.

I just bought a very nice A1212, and looked on Ebay for a skin. Couldn't find one. A little later, while looking online at an IFIXIT description of how to remove the motherboard @ renewing the CPU paste, it seemed that the 4, 17" Apples were all alike, externally.

I went back to Ebay, looked for a skin for the A1151, and...there it was!

I bought mine from "LIDSTYLES", and the fit was just fine, and it went on very easily. I used quite a lot of glass cleaner ( with ammonia ), used the enclosed squeegee to gently smooth it on and push out the excess fluid, and that was that, with change back from $20 USD.

On some level I knew this, as I have owned more than one of these models and experienced the fact that they’re all the same on the outside. However, I have searched for a skin for my A1261 before, and came up empty because I was only searching for the A1261. Your comment jarred that experiential knowledge loose in my head and boom!… realization.

Thanks! I just bought one of these :)

That's some Good News...thanks for sharing it!

The A1212 is my first of the Series, and it's in really nice shape, all over. I plan ( will ! ) Post a few images of what I found during cooling paste renewal...Scary. All three surfaces were far-from-adequately covered, and my guess is that whomever attempted it would have done OK...had they NOT pulled-up the motherboard afterwards; my guess is they missed one of the connectors, and had to move the board just a bit, which pulled quite a lot of the paste away.

When I got the machine it seemed to run just fine...for 10-15 minutes, then not. It simply stopped responding. After a cooling-off period, it would come back on. I assumed it was a hardware issue, and pretty-much decided it was Kaput.

I decided, though, that the least I could do for the Old Apple was take a look at the paste, and, am I glad I did...OUCH!

The fans were OK, and not at all plugged. There was very little dust inside, and no signs of moisture.

After renewing the paste / removing the HDD and substituting a 250GB SSD I cloned using my stand-alone ( inexpensive! ) "SYBA" 2-port cloner / installing 4GB RAM, things are looking very good. I'm running 10.7.5, and using Google as my browser. Emails are just fine, and YouTube videos are nice...some, I can go full-screen, while others resist.

So far /so Good!

Michael.
