I'm planning to buy one of the new 17" MBP C2D as soon as they show up in the Apple store next door in tax free NH. Currently, I use a 4 year old 14" Pentium 4 laptop. It does get pretty hot, but I've learned to tolerate it and actually use it on my lap quite a bit (in fact most of the time when I'm at home). While I've heard that MBPs do get relatively hot, I doubt they get as hot as my Pentium 4 (I've "groped" a few of them to make sure :D ), but given how heavy the 17" MBP is relative to its thinness and large width, I'm concerned that if I use it on my lap a lot the case my eventually start to bow. Are my concerns unfounded, or have any of you people experience dsuch problems?

The only issue with the case, and this will happen no matter what over time, is that the paint will begin to wear off at wrist rests. It's just the build-up of your oils from your skin taking their toll on the paint.

Past that, everything is fine with the case. It'll last longer than anything.

Maybe a Marware Protection Pack will prevent this. I have one on mine right now. I also don't feel the heat as much from the computer from under the left wrist.
