17" MBP (late 2007) - Upgrade to SSD

Hey All.

I have a 17" MBP 2.6GHz - Late 2007.

I have a 500GB Disk Hard drive in it now, but thinking of upgrading to a 500GB SSD.

I know the laptop is kinda dated, but I get a lot of use out of it, and would like to boost it's performance. I already maxed it's memory to 4GB a while ago.

So, anyone have any experience with the SSD drives in this model. Also, do I need to be specific on the model/version of SSD that I use? I have lots of data, so need to replace existing drive with same size or better.

Your MBP has SATA I so it's not as fast as more recent models but an SSD will always be faster than a HD on the same interface. Also, you can go up to 6GB memory in a late 2007 model.

I agree with you that a 2007 is still very useful. If mine had supported a good bit more memory, it would still be my main laptop.

Go with M4.
Your MBP doesnt have the potential to use all the speeds of Samsung 830, vertex, etc.
I think M4 best suits you.

my 2007 MBP but not 17 inches model I am happy with Intel 320 series 160GB SSD.
