My bad if this has already been addressed but I just found out a 2009 17" Mac Book Pro is going to be dropped in the mail. I would like to install SSD. Can this be done with this computer?

Follow up is can I up the RAM, and if so, how much?

Yes to both questions.
Maximum RAM in that model is 8GB (2 x 4 GB of PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMM)
