17" PowerBook 1.33 POST time

To those who saw my thread under buying and selling, I opted for the 17" PB, because we may end up getting a G5 anyway.

On to the subject, I noticed it takes 7-8 seconds for my PowerBook to complete POST. I'm assuming there is some sort of self test on power up. However, my iMac 17" only takes a couple of seconds.

I'm timing this from the time I press the power button and hear the boot sound until I see the Mac OS X boot screen with the spinning circle. My PB will make the boot sound, wait 7-8 seconds then show the boot screen.

Is this normal? I've never owned a PowerBook before.

You've probably only got a 4200rpm drive, as opposed to the 7200rpm in the iMac.
That does make a huge difference.

I used to have a 5400rpm drive in the iMac, and its POST speed was similar to the 7200rpm version.

I'm curious if it has something to do with the laptop hardware.

hmmm, mine seems fast

its so fast that we're only talkin seconds here so who really cares.

but i hate how its not a 7200 rpm drive
i have to run all my Protools sessions off my firewire drive (which id probbly do even if it was a 7200 drive)
