We've seen lots of talk about the rear of this year's iPhones potentially scratching more easily than expected.

But has anyone found that their screen is surprisingly scratch-prone?

I thought the new Ceramic Shield was meant to be more scratch resistant, but I already have quite a lot of minor scuffs on the screen. On the 16 Pro Max I didn't notice any scratches until I had already had it for several months.

And no, it's not been in pockets with keys etc.

I am almost wondering if it is the anti-reflective coating scratching rather than the actual screen.

The AR coating is not on the outer surface of the glass.

I have no such scratching on my 17 Pro yet. So far not doing worse than my 16 Pro Max, fingers crossed.

I could be wrong but that looks like a screen protector scratch. Are you sure where you purchased it didn't install one?
Even the Apple Store will install on at the point of purchase.

The scratches look like the phone came into contact with something very hard. Those aren't superficial scratches.

Carry your phone in a sleeve when in your pocket or make sure there is nothing else in your pocket but the phone.

The screen is easily scratched but is more shatter resistant than previous phones.

Always use a screen protector if you want to keep your screen looking good.

I picked up my 17 Pro 2 days ago and immediately applied a Spigen EZ fit screen protector. It fits so well that you wouldn’t even know it was there.

That’s simply not true.

Look at Jerry Rig Everything’s video. It doesn’t scratch until a MOHS level 8 is applied, it’s one of the most scratch resistant screens on the market today.

I find Jerry Rig Everything’s videos to be enjoyable and oddly relaxing. Seems like a cool guy.

I agree about watching his video. He does put those phones through the wringer. You’ll definitely know at what level your screen will scratch
