rumor has it that the 17 in mbp will have an 8x dual layer burner.......i could care less about that as i never ever burn dvds anymore. but, the one thing i want is a 160gb HD option, and really really badly......think theyd let this be an option on the 17 and not the 15? or would both get this option? and when do you think they would have a 160gb hd in them?

As far as I know the only 160gb drive currently shipping is the seageate 5400.3. It's only available in regular ata interfaces, and not sata, so this is why it probably wasn't listed as an option for the Macbook. Hopefully they'll implement a sata interface soon, at which time I'd expect it to become a BTO option on the 15 Macbook.

From what I've read at different sites, disk manufacturers have only committed to "later this year". Lets hope its sooner than later, because I ordered the stock 1.83 MacBook with a 80g drive, and I know that's going to run out in no time.:)

There are external harddrives out there (maybe a rumor)... Why don't you get yourself a 1TB external - Sorry

Just a wild shot here.....but pehaps because an external drive doesn't fit neatly INSIDE a laptop, which is OBVIOULSY what this person wants.

haha yeah i have a 320gb lacie external now, for backup and video

but i like having all my music on the internal, and since i have about 80gb of music now and growing, ive got about 11gb left on my internal now
