My iMac, which was a refurbished iMac from Apple, keeps freezing.

It goes to sleep (automatically and I usually use my desktops that way) and when I wake it up later, it is frozen.
Any suggestions?

The user account was ported from first gen. retina MacBook pro.

I would open disk utility and check permisions. Download and run iccleaner. And download and run cleanmymac. Others will say no to cleanmymac but I have now probs with version 2.

Mine freezes too every so often. Nothing responds for about 10 secs. And yes this happened before I ran cleanmymqc. Using finder you can force quite of the offending app.

is cleanmymac generally considered safe?

I just repaired all permissions.
there were some problems so maybe that was the source of these hickups.

I wouldn't touch cleanmymac with a 10 foot pole. That stuff usually breaks more stuff then it fixes.
