Hmm. John Stewart neutered and hosting the Oscars. I think I'll pass.

Shoot, let's say he goes all out, remember when Michael Moore got "political"?

I agree. As long as Stewart keeps his politics to himself, it may be worth it. Then again, he's pigeon-holed himself into that role, so who knows? I hope it's better than last years "Hollywood's Tribute to African-Americans" when Rock hosted (which wasn't Rock's fault).

edit: Let me re-phrase that: "Hollyood's Tribute to how it thinks African-Americans are".

I'm pretty sure he will, as he is a comedian first. Though I'm guessing you don't watch him much, because he pretty much makes fun of both sides. ;) He hosted some other awards show, and he was supposed to be pretty good. Better than most I heard.

Though I wouldn't know, I tend not to watch most awards shows.

I watch his show a lot, although I liked the correspondents better when Kilborn was hosting. He kind of makes fun of the Dems, but only once in a blue moon. He's vehemently anti-Republican, and it comes through often. I recall watching one of his speeches on C-SPAN during the 2004 elections, and realizing how anti-Republican he is. Mind you, I don't feel he's that progressive, just anti-Republican. I agree with you, though, that he'll be toned down.

I think that's kind of unfair...he makes jokes about Republicans more often because they're the ones currently 'in charge', and, quite frankly, there's been a LOT to make fun of them for lately.

Anyway, he makes jokes about Kerry and Dean all the time.

He is a supporter of McCain and Spectre, among others, who he frequently has on his show. He makes fun on Dean and Kerry all the time. During the 2000 election, he poked fun at the Clintons and Gore way more than Bush. I don't want to have this moved to the political forum, but he makes fun of whoever he thinks is doing something rediculous, and it makes sense that he would target whoever is in majority power. I watch his show all the time, and have since before the Repubs were in charge, and when Kilborn hosted from '96-'99.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but since when did making fun of the government for their mistakes become off limits?

When Chris Rock hosted last year I didn't even bother watching it, because I don't like his style of humour. Jon Stewart I find funny, and I try and catch his show if I'm awake.

That being said, I want Conan to host it.

Totally...Conan would be a great host.

Yeah, I realized that after I said it. So then, the terrorists did win? Hopefully the next President is a Dem... so I can make fun of them again.

I always assumed that stewart started it
Killborn hosted the show in its very beginnings and then left when he got his own gig on late night. Jon Stewart replaced him, which is when the "With Jon Stewart" was added (obviously). It was never "...With Craig Killborn"
