I opened a Barclays card in mid-February to see if I'd be approved (I was) for a potential MacBook purchase. The card has been sent to me and all but I'm not sure if I will take advantage of the financing. Would opening and closing a card I never used adversely affect my credit rating?

I also may wish to reapply for the card down the line once I'm ready to buy the MacBook.

Since you opened a card, it would have been a hard check and would have affected your credit.

Then closing a line of credit will drop it even more.

+1 to this.

Also, barclaycard regularly sends me offers to purchase apple products with no interest for 18 months on purchases over $999. My advice is to just keep the card open and wait for the next offer.
