I recently updated my OS to iOS 7.1.

I thought this was just a one-off thing at first, but unfortunately it's not.

The iOS 7.1 update is adding a shadow to every Wallpaper.

Not sure if it's just my device, or whether others are experiencing the same problem.

Screenshots attached.

I look forward to your replies.

It depends on the wallpaper you are using. If iOS decides it's "not good" for displaying text or the lockscreen it adds the shadow to a given wallpaper.

I tried couple other wallpapers (Bright Colors) as well; same issue.

The only wallpapers that are not getting the shadow are the ones that come with the iOS - Settings -> Stills.

I hope Apple fixes this with the next update.

I think it's your wallpaper......

My iPhone 5 doesn't do that. Check accessibility for any toggled on switches.

My iphone does this to EVERY wallpaper and i absolutely hate it. How about letting US decide whether this should be on or off Apple instead of you trying to decide for everyone with one single option? Thats the problem with Apple. They think they know whats best for everyone. No customization. One option for anything. Its quite a boring world to be in but i have too much money wrapped up in apps now.

...hmm - I'm certainly not getting this on ANY of my wallpapers (perhaps its just you?):

It happens to wallpapers deemed "too lite" on the upper half. They are darkened to make it easier to read the status bar.

Set a white image as your background and you'll see it.

Yours doesn't have a drop shadow because iOS determined that your whole wallpaper was very lite, and therefore compensated by changing the text to black.

The drop shadow only happens when the image has enough darkness for iOS to not change the text to black, so you're left with white text on a lite background. Then, the shadow in the upper half of the screen is added.

Or how about... it's only a wallpaper, why don't you enjoy the phone instead of moaning that your wallpaper has a small shadow added to it.

How about we pay good money for our iPhones and we would like to put what ever we want on our wallpapers with out having it darkened at the top

EVERY one of my wallpapers have a shadow that ruins them. And I have a lot of wallpapers, over 100. Not one yet hasn't had this stupid effect.

Don't you just love how these beautiful wallpapers look gloomy and overcast with Apple's magical touch? None of my wallpapers are without this effect, and most of them actually are not landscapes with skies like these.

I don't know about you, but a majority of people buy Smartphones for the overall experience - which includes the Look and Feel of the phone.

If I just wanted a PHONE, I could have stuck with my old NOKIA 6600 Symbian OS Phone.

My problem is with Apple trying to shove their ideas and what they deem is right for the end-user, down our throats. That's all.
