Flash or Chrome based ?

Just wondering what does everyone use when its time to use Youtube with requires Flash..

Do you download the Adobe stand-alone installer, or do you use Chrome just for Flash content?

Knowing that Chrome keeps flash up to date, and probably more secure too, which method to do choose ?

Chrome your youtube videos works for me...
 
I'm Flash-free and will be from now until the end of my time.

I use both Chrome and Chrome Canary for some of my video watching. I've also found that I can use Safari for some YT watching, using the Develop>User Agent>Safari iOS 7 — iPad Command (I use a custom Keyboard Shortcut to invoke this Command) to get the HTML5 video loaded.

Flash = Bug-ridden sh..., er, crap.

I HATE Flash, with a passion matched only by that expressed by Ricardo Montalban toward Kirk in Star Trek II.
 
Why isn't flash dead yet? Why hasn't Google killed it from Youtube?
HTML5 + HEVC encoding is all we need.

IMO, Flash is a bug-ridden exploit-ready black hole that is always in need security updates. Reference the bug patches that were issued last week. And this week. YouTube is only one tiny part of the internet. Adobe just doesn't stay up to date with bug fixes IMO.

What ticks me off is the error messages I get when I use ESPN or the BBC in Safari, until I change the User Agent to an iPad - then the video works. Most of the sites I visit that "require" Flash also have an iPad-ready HTML5 version ready - what a waste of time.

I was responding to a message about YouTube, hence why I mentioned it.

Also, the number of bugs is always going down. We saw, for example, fewer problems in 2013 than in 2012. Flash isn't the hug it was before. It could still use some performance improvements, but it isn't like in 2007 when the iPhone came out.

Stop pretending that Adobe hasn't made large strides with the player.

Good one. They haven't IMO - I'm not "pretending", stop with the epithets. I'm a small company owner, I subscribe to Adobe's Creative Cloud, and I have employees that like to watch videos after work and while they're in remote areas and looking for something to do. My expertise is in civil engineering and I have two "IT guys" on retainer, but I keep up with current issues. I used Flash when it was known as "FutureWave Animator" - and I check my employee's Console logs periodically. Review your Console logs, if you haven't... Adobe hasn't made any "strides" with Flash Player in at least 3 years.

Flash is a buggy POS. In. My. Educated. And. Experienced. Opinion.

I love how you throw educated and experienced in there, as well as repeating that it's an opinion. Well, if you think that they haven't made great strides, or any strides, in the past three years?

Your opinion is wrong. And that can happen, your opinion can be wrong.
 
I have to agree with campyguy. Flash sucks, yet it's still everywhere even although like you said most sites have an HTML5 version. I have flash installed on both OSX and Windows partitions - but I do so reluctantly. Sooner it dies the better.
Really, flash is more efficient that HTML5 on youtube? You sure? As it usually rips apart my battery and heats up quite a bit for me.
I'm not a flash expert, I just know the future of the web and computing doesn't involve flash so I don't know why it's still so prevalent when it's not needed.

We're not at a point where the alternatives work good enough for everyone.

And yes. I have been able to play YouTube videos with flash and not have my fan go off. I've been playing videos with HTML5 and did have the fans start going. Both times, I just had WebKit open.

I have removed Flash and just use the YouTube5 Safari extension.

You'd think Youtube would be on HTML 5 for all videos by now huh ? its been in beta long enough... hasn't it ?

I know it may take a while, and while i have come across a few HTML5 videos, then majrity of them are still flash based .... Add to that most of the sites i've come across still requite flash player, so that's probably still a good reason why it's taken this long.... Its probably because if Flash was dead overnight (like flash basically went this way for mobile devices.), then 90% of the internet wouldn't work for video, unless there was a strong development for HTML 5.

Which i don't think there is. At least, not for now anyway.

I thought every browser has good HTML5 support now (and if you're not using an up to date browser then that's your problem, especially with how easy it is to keep them up to date). Just been reading more about HEVC (h.265), Youtube should be supporting a much more bandwidth efficient codec.

Also why the hell does youtube not allow me to use HD as standard :mad:
