Why does having a passcode help if find my phone is being hacked?

Then Apple suggests users change the apple password?

Any have the clear facts on this....

I am looking forward to macrumors putting up an article on this - either to warn users about this & what precautions to take OR debunk this story if it's an urban legend.

Yea I understand the pass code purpose. To ask after 4 hours is pointless.

Because the "hack" would basically just lock your device with your passcode.

If you already have a passcode, then that's easy since you can just unlock it.

If you don't have a passcode, the "hacker" can then set it via Find My iPhone and then you pretty much have to either reset the device or pay the ransom.

Hence if you don't want a passcode, to protect against this set a passcode but set the timer to 4 hours.

As Apple recommended everyone change their password or just those that have been effected? i haven't changed my password yet!
