I got the free trial from http://www.plasq.com. I made one quick comic for my kids and their friends, it's not brilliant but it was really fun. Tight integration with iPhoto too.

I have it and totally love it!!!! Although I haven't used it as I much as I would like to yet. Great first comic, BTW!

Thanks! Do you have one you can post?

I got it for my kids. It is a fun app and well done. But... it is virtually unusable on their 12" iBooks. The design of the UI consumes a lot of space and so the actual comic section is pretty small and after you drag photos in there, the size of the text in the captions is microscopic. Of course you can get around all this with zoom and scroll, but that greatly detracts from the usability.

It's great.
I use it all the time.
Not only for the comic book appearance but also formatting photo books.

is there a built in feature to get the photos to look like a comic book, or did you use photoshop to get that effect?
It's built in, along with 20 other effects (each can then be customised), speech bubbles, captions, and exclamations (POW!!). They can all be customised. It's a single purpose app but quite complete and good value.

I used the effect "marvelous" to create my comic. It is one of the standard photo effects.

Here is the same comic with different styles. The top photo is "70's Rag" the 2 left photos are "old Skool" and the bottom right photo is "Acrylic Comic".

Here's a pretty basic one I did a while back . . .

Absolutely fantastic program! I've started making quick comics of photos people send me, and then sending them back. I'd post one, but my powerbook is in for repairs.

So cool that it's bundled with new macs.
