I'm still using Snow Leopard on my 2010 MBA (4GRAM/256GB, C2D). Has anyone tried upgrading to Mavericks on this machine and found performance to be ok?

I have upgraded to mavericks on the 2GB/128GB machine and had no issue with it. Especially with 4GB of RAM, it should be fine for all the new OS's through 2017.

I installed Mavs on my daughter's 2008 Macbook and it worked just fine, so your more powerful machine should not have any issue at all.

I have been a Macintosh user since 1986, and have always upgraded to the latest OS on the day it first became available. Over the years I have never seen a reason not to.

This is not the windoze os, where migrating to the latest OS is not always prudent. I have found the Mac's OS's to be stable on release and to be improvements over their predecessors.
